How the heights are worked out
- Tide is the astronomical prediction from the Open-Meteo sea-level model, calibrated against the CMAL Brodick pier gauge.
- Pressure: water rises about 1 cm for every hPa that pressure falls below 1013 hPa, and drops when pressure is high. A deep 970 hPa low adds about 43 cm.
- Wind surge is our estimate of south-westerly winds pushing water up the Firth of Clyde. It uses the mean wind over the 6 hours before each tide.
- Expected is the sum of the three: the height most likely to actually be reached.
Not for navigation
Times may differ from official tables by 10–20 minutes, and surge is an estimate. Use UKHO / Admiralty tide tables for navigation. For coastal flooding, check SEPA flood updates.
